On 29 May, CMMI, in collaboration with the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus, hosted an ‘EMD in My Country’ event at the Multi-functional Social Welfare and Employment Centre in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The event welcomed young learners for a day of discovery, creativity, and hands-on engagement with the maritime world. Through interactive activities, marine science demonstrations, discussions on blue careers, and immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, participants explored the many opportunities offered by the blue economy.

As part of the event, the ATALANTA project highlighted the importance of empowering women in the maritime sector and raising awareness of the diverse career pathways available to girls and young women.

Children also had the opportunity to experience VR technology, a key component of the ATALANTA project. Through immersive learning experiences, VR demonstrates how innovative technologies can be used to support skills development, training, confidence-building, and greater inclusion within maritime education and careers.

The activities were supported by interns from CMMI’s #GreenLink project, who assisted participants throughout the day and guided children through the various educational stations and experiences.

The event provided an engaging learning environment that promoted ocean literacy, gender inclusion, and awareness of future opportunities in the maritime sector, helping inspire the next generation to explore careers connected to our seas and oceans.
