Between 20–30 April 2026, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) organised the Global Port Safety Training Programme under the Global Gateway Initiative of the European Union, within the framework of the Global Ports Safety (GPS) project.

Co-funded by the European Union and France and implemented by Expertise France, the programme brought together participants from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, representing ministries, port authorities, academia, and industry stakeholders.

Within the framework of the training programme, CMMI also disseminated the objectives and vision of the ATALANTA project through an interactive workshop focusing on the role of women in the maritime sector, the challenges they continue to face, and the importance of inclusive capacity-building within the blue economy.

The session further explored the key skills gaps emerging from the decarbonisation transition in the maritime industry, highlighting the need for gender-inclusive training, digital competencies, and sustainable maritime education pathways.

The participation of ATALANTA in the programme contributed to raising awareness of the project’s mission to support equality, inclusion, and empowerment within the marine and maritime sectors, while fostering international dialogue and knowledge exchange among stakeholders from Europe and Asia.
